Eco-towns guidance promotes virtue of car-free housing environments

Car-free housing environments and streets designed for pedestrians and cyclists rather than motorised traffic should be among the key design characteristics of the Government's proposed new eco-towns, according to new guidance for developers and local authorities.

Ministers were expected to announce the shortlist of approximately 15 eco-towns across England as LTT closed for press, with ten towns expected to eventually be selected for implementation.
