Aberdeen’s ill-fated hydrogen bus scheme has cost the city council almost £14m, reveal figures obtained by STV News. The buses have been out of service since 2024 following problems with hydrogen supply.
Earlier this year the council announced the project has been abandoned in favour of electric buses (see panel). The hydrogen fleet was undermined not only by fuel issues but the improvement of vehicle battery technology.
