The Scottish Government has criticised the UK Government’s future 3p charge per mile driven in EVs and is not yet sure how the charge will affect its new target for reduced car emissions. Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said in Holyrood “I think that it is the wrong decision for motorists, for our climate and for Scotland.” She accused Chancellor Rachel Reeves of ignoring the need for a broader reform of motoring taxation. “What is needed is a four-nations approach to such reform to ensure that it aligns with wider considerations such as climate change, investment in public transport alternatives and road maintenance requirements.
