HA cuts the cost of new roads

The Highways Agency claims to have cut the cost of each additional lane of new road it builds by more than a quarter in two years.

The HA has reported progress against cost benchmarks set as part of a Whitehall drive to make 15% efficiency savings on infrastructure construction by 2015. These show that the average cost per metre square of new road was £1,900 in 2011/12 compared with £2,600 two years ago.
