HS2 will cost at least double previous estimates to complete, with the start of first services delayed by three years, starting in 2036 at the earliest, Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has told the House of Commons.
The DfT now puts the total cost of HS2 at between £87.7bn and £102.7bn, with passengers expected to begin using the first phase of the line between Old Oak Common in West London and Birmingham Curzon Street between 2036 and 2039.
