Intervention criteria for network management duty 'too subjective'

The DfT could face a legal challenge if it tries to impose a traffic director on a local authority judged to be failing in its network management duties, local authorities have claimed.

The network management duty of the Traffic Management Act 2004 requires authorities in England and Wales to secure the expeditious movement of traffic on their road network and on networks for which another authority is traffic authority.
