Cosy arrangements on rail fare rises must end to provide value for money

There can be few, if any, industries where price rises cause the level of national debate and general criticism that they do on the railways. The reason is not simply confined to the scale of the increases brought about on some routes, notably for outer suburban season ticket holders, by the Government’s RPI+3% policy.
