Labour promises Glasgow-Edinburgh express trains

Transport pledges in Labour’s manifesto include intercity rail enhancements. Labour would create “a fast rail corridor that links Scotland’s cities with electrified trains and more frequent Glasgow-Edinburgh express services to boost capacity  and cut journey times for commuters and rail freight”. Apart from the Glasgow-Edinburgh corridor, train services between Scotland cities are diesel operated. Using electric trains would require a step change in the pace of electrification, even if discontinuous electrification were used.
