Here’s a much cheaper way to solve Halton’s Mersey woes...

I am intrigued by the disconnect between the lengthy ‘puff’ for the Mersey Gateway bridge (MGB) in your last issue and its citation in my letter (in the same issue) as a prime example of time savings overstating economic benefits.

I could have been a lot more critical of the bridge proposals: not only is the net benefit of time saving to users (£230m) around ten times the value of job gains (1,233 jobs – £25m tops), but the supposed net benefit from tolls only...
