As a Kent resident and a regular visitor to Ashford, I was not surprised to read in LTT (‘Kent reviews ‘confusing’ courtesy crossings in pioneering shared space’ LTT 8 May) of an apparent return to reality by the highway authority over their troubled shared space scheme. Although receiving praise in the technical community (often, it seems, from people who have never ventured to Ashford), in practice this scheme has never worked properly.
