Institution's views raise doubts about value of professional bodies

I was appalled by Mike Slinn's letter in the last issue. It displays a combination of narrow-minded ignorance and cheap sarcasm that might be at home in some tabloid columns but surely not in a journal such as yours. I do not believe such phraseology is appropriate from any professional practitioner. From such a senior figure is seems highly irresponsible.

We face some rather horrendous challenges to our way of life on this planet. Global warming, whatever the causes, needs to be addressed....
