The Silverlink train franchise has been extended for a second time so that its end-date will coincide with the redrawing of rail franchises in the Midlands. Three new franchises - East Midlands, West Midlands and Cross Country - will replace the four franchises currently operated by Central Trains, Silverlink, Virgin Cross Country and Midland Mainline.
