Plaid and Reform manifestos both pledge to back building M4 relief road

by Both frontrunner parties for the Welsh Senedd election in May have pledged to look again at road construction to ease congestion on the M4 around Newport.

The M4 Relief Road has been cancelled twice on affordability grounds, but Reform UK leader Nigel Farage suggested to the BBC at the launch of the party’s Welsh manifesto that the road could be funded through tolls. Opinion polls put Reform UK in second place in the Senedd election, with Plaid Cymru in the lead.
