Regional mayors have been promised control of some tax revenue to spend on their local priorities, by Chancellor Rachel Reeves.
The plans, which will be detailed in the autumn Budget, would not increase taxes but hand local control of some national tax income, Reeves indicated, also announcing a new £2.5bn investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing, designed to boost the UK economy.
