The Republic of Ireland is this week finishing the final stage of its metric conversion of road signs with the replacement over three days of 23,000 speed limit signs. The UK has been prevaricating for 40 years on whether to change or not but the situation is now more acute in Northern Ireland where motorists face adjusting to differing measurements whenever they cross the border.
