Transport Scotland is consulting on how to revive the flagging fortunes of rail freight north of the border.  

The country’s rail freight sector has been hit by the collapse of the coal industry brought about by the Scottish and UK Government’s climate change policies. Coal traffic from Ayrshire to power stations in England has virtually ceased and Scotland’s last coal-fired power station at Longannet in Fife will close shortly.
