Speeding is a consequence of setting speed limits too low

What the RAC Foundation and the Association of British Drivers both need to accept is that the act of simply exceeding an arbitrary and unscientific number on a pole cannot cause any accidents at all.

It is preposterous to suppose that people who have been driving safely at 40mph in a 40mph zone will suddenly crash if the limit is reduced to 30mph and they do not reduce their speed accordingly.

Accidents are caused by a number of factors, including driving too fast above or below the limits....
