Network Rail is exploring the idea of extending Crossrail services to Milton Keynes as a way of relieving capacity at London Euston for domestic high-speed rail services.
NR says the westbound Crossrail services currently planned to terminate at Ladbroke Grove, west of Paddington, could instead continue onto the West Coast Main Line by building a short stretch of new line at Old Oak Common.
