With all the current discussion in the letters pages about road safety and speed, I think we should briefly note that deaths on Britain’s roads declined by 44% and child fatalities declined by 61% between 2000 and 2009.
This exceeded the then Government’s targets of 40% and 60% respectively between 2000 and 2010. Whatever Labour was doing was probably helpful and I do hope the current Government will continue making progress.
