National Express Group chief executive Phil White bowed out of the UK?passenger transport business as its highest earner.

White, who retired in September after nine years in charge at National Express, took home £1,010,000 for the year to December 31, 2005, up by almost 2% on the previous year.

The industry’s next highest earner was Stagecoach chief executive Brian Souter, who received £924,000 in the year to April 30, 2006, up 10% on his previous year’s...
