An unplanned trip to the hospital prompts the question: is it too late for ‘smarter’ choices?

Nearly all of us make different trips in the run-up to Christmas. Last December I had an unplanned one, travelling by ambulance early one morning from my home to the Accident and Emergency unit of my local hospital. Around a week later I was released from the system to continue my recovery over the holiday period in the company of family and friends.

Medically the system worked splendidly. However, whilst a guest of the NHS in the modern facilities that had been developed over the last 25 years...
