‘Re-open Cheshire railway’ say councils

A consortium of local authorities and economic stakeholders in Cheshire has presented the case for reinstating rail services to Middlewich. A study by the Railway Consultancy concludes that an hourly Crewe-Northwich service, serving a new station at Middlewich (population 13,600) on an existing freight-only line, would attract about 650 additional rail passengers a day. Infrastructure costs needed to accommodate passenger trains are unclear. Network Rail is sceptical about the plans (LTT?19...
