Eastern leg of HS2 cancelled

The Birmingham to Leeds leg of the HS2 high-speed rail line has been scrapped and a full high-speed east-west line linking Manchester to Leeds will not be built, with the UK Government instead announcing a series of measures that it claims will transform services in the Midlands and North.
