New railways body needs a Highways England equivalent

I was interested to read the letter by Prof Paul Salveson (LTT 14 June) on the Williams - Shapps report. I really do think we have moved on too far for the return of London based centralisation that he suggest might happen. Cities are generators of wealth created by the sharing of ideas. Good transport enables people to come together to discuss ideas that generate innovation. Good transport in a city makes that city a more attractive place to work and will draw the best talent to its industries...
