Network Rail has applied for powers for a £1.46bn upgrade to an eight-mile section of the main Transpennine railway in West Yorkshire.
The work between Huddersfield and Dewsbury includes increasing the number of tracks from two to four, electrification, and building a flyover junction at Thornhill where the Leeds and Wakefield lines join/split.
