The DfT plans to give train operator First Trenitalia West Coast Rail Ltd a ten-year direct award contract for the West Coast Partnership rail franchise.
The direct award is expected to commence on 1 April next year, when the operator’s Covid-19 Emergency Recovery Measures Agreement (ERMA) expires.
The ERMA commenced on the 20 September last year, replacing an Emergency Measures Agreement (EMA) that had been in place since 1 April.
