Tory councils say party's plan to ban new road humps is too simplistic

Conservative councillors this week said their party's plan to impose a blanket ban on implementing new road humps was too simplistic.

Conservative shadow transport secretary Tim Yeo put forward the policy in an amendment to the Government's Road Safety Bill. The amendment, which was not accepted for debate by the Speaker, read:

* "No new speed humps intended for traffic calming purposes shall be constructed on any public road or highways; and
