Split Anglo-Scottish HS2 trains at Preston, not Carlisle

The bizarre announcement of the green light for HS2, a project we cannot afford nor will ever need, beggars belief (‘Get building HS2, contractors told’ LTT 17 Apr). 

There has been speculation that the green light was given because contractors were getting nervous and talking of delay payments. Let us hope that when HS2 is cancelled the compensation payments will be smaller than any delay payments would have been.
