The Prime Minister’s most senior aide, Dominic Cummings, is reported to be pressing for the Government to increase fuel duty in next month’s Budget in order to send a strong environmental message ahead of the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow in November.
The Sun this week quoted a Treasury official saying: “Cummings was pushing Sajid [Javid] to put up fuel duty, so the PM will look good for the climate conference we’re hosting.”
