The gruesome saga of Crossrail and its 40 brand-new trains sitting in sidings at Old Oak Common in West London quietly rusting until 2021 at least, not to mention their nearly 500 drivers with little to do, tells us much about rail project completion dates and budgets (‘Crossrail opening: 2020 or 2021’ LTT 26 Apr).
