Opposition to HS2 in the Cabinet ‘growing’

HS2 Ltd has released images showing how the station at Old Oak Common, west London, could look. The Government company this week awarded construction contracts to deliver the Euston terminal station and Old Oak Common. The Euston works will be undertaken by a joint venture of Mace and Dragdos. The Old Oak Common contract has been awarded to a joint venture of Balfour Beatty, VINCI Construction UK, Vinci Construction Grands Projects, and SYSTRA.

Hostility towards the HS2 project within the Cabinet is growing, according to media reports this week.

Channel 4’s Dispatches programme, ‘HS2: The Great Train Robbery’, reported a Government source claiming ministers were “increasingly minded to kill-off” the project. One option being considered was only to build the London-West Midlands leg, it said.
