Ministers oppose simplifying closure procedures

 

Network Rail will cut back its level crossing closure programme in favour of making more use of technologies to improve crossing safety, according to the DfT. 

The news has come as a surprise because a Transport and Works Act Order inquiry is currently taking place into Network Rail’s plan to close 60 level crossings in Essex.
