Rail CO2 emissions decline

Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions from passenger trains reduced by 6.6 per cent in 2017/18, according to the Office of Rail and Road. The ORR says the improvement is largely attributable to changes in electricity generation, with more use of renewable sources. However, some of the improvement was related to a 7.3 per cent increase in the length of electrified route in 2017/18, including Edinburgh to Glasgow and the Great Western main line as far as Maidenhead and subsequently Reading....
