Phase one of HS2 will end up costing taxpayers more than twice as much as official estimates, according to a new assessment.
Quantity surveyor Michael Byng believes the London to West Midlands route will cost £51bn in 2015 prices, compared with the £24bn in 2013 prices quoted by the DfT.
