Following her recent appointment as a junior transport minister, Conservative MP Nusrat Ghani used a column in The Times to introduce herself. After announcing, with understandable pride, that she was the first female Muslim MP to be made a government minister, Ghani then extolled the virtues of the HS2 high-speed rail network, the supervision of which is part of her ministerial brief. “Growing up in Birmingham, London seemed out of reach, as did Leeds and Manchester,” she began....
