Transport secretary Chris Grayling has confirmed a  rollback of the Government’s rail electrification programme, dropping plans to wire the Midland Main Line north of Kettering,  the Great Western Main Line between Cardiff and Swansea, and the Oxenholme-Windermere branch in the Lake District. 

The cancellations follow the Great Western electrification debacle, which is years delayed  and massively over budget.
