HS2 Ltd has dismissed an MP’s claim that the cost of HS2 could surpass £200bn – four times the current estimated cost.
Kelvin Hopkins, the Conservative MP for Luton North and an opponent of the project, cited the figure in a letter to campaign group Stop HS2 last month. “Leaks from inside the HS2 bureaucracy suggests that the total cost of HS2 will be over £200bn,” he said.
