Users pay more of rail costs

Rail fares and other income generated by the rail industry covers the day-to-day costs of running Britain’s rail network, according to industry association the Rail Delivery Group. 

Passenger fares generated £8.8bn in 2014/15, with a further £1.7bn raised from other sources by train operators and Network Rail, giving a total revenue of £10.5bn.
