Readers may like to know that, at 2012/13 prices and for Control Period 5, Network Rail forecasts expenditure of £38.3bn. Finance costs may increase that to £44.6bn. That is to be funded by grant of circa £20bn, income from the train operating companies etc. and, of course, from borrowing.
