Those who attempt to predict future trends in transport can often get it so wrong as to be hilariously funny. For example, whatever happened to the nuclear-powered car, touted by at least one major car manufacturer as the way forward back in the 1950s? Or the car that could be converted into a personal flying machine so easily that the task could be accomplished "even by a woman"? What, indeed.

But sometimes, of course, those charged with predicting the future get it quite eerily...
