Borders rail reopening greeted with mixture of optimism and scepticism

The official reopening of the Scottish Borders rail link was initially treated by the media as a highly positive event, but it didn’t take long before negative stories about, and less than enthusiastic commentary on, the railway started to surface in the papers.

The reopening of the rail line between Edinburgh and Galashiels and Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders region (LTT 4 Sep) generated a modicum of speculation that further ‘extinct’ rail services could be resurrected in the foreseeable future. The Guardian, for example, suggested that the reopening of the Borders railway signalled “fresh hope for more Scottish lines”.
