Free car parking in Northumberland

Northumberland County Council is to scrap parking charges in most council-owned car parks from April. Free parking was an election pledge of the Labour Party that took control of the council last year. The party says scrapping charges will encourage people to shop in their local towns instead of driving to Carlisle or into Tyne and Wear.
