The Government has asked local authorities in the North East of England to provide “clear and compelling evidence” that their plan to set up a combined authority (CA) overseeing transport and economic policies has public support.
The Department for Communities and Local Government consultation on the authorities’ proposal notes that in 2004 the North East voted against plans for an elected North East regional assembly in a referendum.
