One of your regular correspondents, Gavin Smith, has made an incorrect statement about the use of Ashton Avenue bridge, that whilst it seems small, needs correction (Letters LTT 12 Jul).

As the document submitted to the 2012 public inquiry into the Ashton Vale to Temple Meads bus rapid transit plan states, until around 1965 Ashton Avenue bridge “was one of the major road routes from Bristol to the south-west” – i.e. it has previously been used by road vehicles.
