Transport for Greater Manchester has set out how tram-train technology could boost public transport’s role in the conurbation.
The draft rail strategy says that, after the existing Manchester Metrolink extensions to Oldham, Rochdale and East Didsbury are completed, “there are no significant further routes where complete conversion of rail lines to Metrolink operation is possible”. All other routes have a mixture of long- and short-distance rail services.
