Rail fares in Northern conurbations could rise significantly under proposals to fund rail investment being studied by Passenger Transport Executives.
Fares policy is part of the wider discussion taking place between the DfT and PTEs over the possible devolution of rail powers for the Northern and TransPennine franchises. The DfT will publish a consultation on rail devolution in the New Year.
