Make Birmingham New Street the high-speed rail station

Graham Nalty is right about the limited benefit of parkway stations. One sited on the London-West Midlands high-speed line between Coventry and the National Exhibition Centre will not be quicker for people destined for the centre of the former, possibly even slower than at present.

The use of a new station in Birmingham, about half a mile from New Street, which is the hub of the rail system in the region, means much of the time saved by higher train speeds will be wasted in changing stations...
