New trains would replace ageing HST fleet

 

Transport minister Philip Hammond is this week expected to approve plans for the replacement of Britain's High Speed Train fleet.

The move will see funding released to allow the continuation of the stalled Intercity Express project which was placed on ice earlier this year by then transport secretary Lord Adonis.

Hammond is understood to be keen to approve plans for the project as part of wider moves to preserve vital infrastructure projects.
