Longer rail franchises would save significant mounts of money, both for the Department for Transport and for train operating companies, simply by reducing the number of occasions when the re-letting process has to be gone through.

Where we need new stretches of motorway, we should consider private financing and toll roads, and where we need to widen motorways we need to make much more extensive use of Active Traffic Management (ATM). This has already been proved to be a much cheaper solution...
