The first section of through junction hard shoulder running on the UK motorway network will be launched next week.
Motorists travelling southbound on the M42 at junction 5 near Solihull will be the first to use the hard shoulder between motorway slip roads. The initiative will deliver a continuous four lane section of the motorway between junctions 6 (Birmingham Airport) and 4 (Monkspath). Until now motorists have had to exit the hard shoulder when approaching junction 5.
